Dig into Digital: Ministry of Education Moodle Templates with superb, ready-made content for teachers of English to use!

The Ministry of Education - English Department has developed courses in English that enable digital learning alongside classroom learning. These courses are structured according to the curriculum and allow both teachers and pupils to access excellent, ready-made content from anywhere, at any time and at the appropriate pace. When a teacher requests a copy (or copies) of the courses (Templates) his/her students are enrolled in the course and can progress either following their teacher’s guidance or, better yet,  independently. In short, teachers can open a course for their class and follow the learning and practice process.

Moodle Templates: Teacher Tutorials

The Ministry of Education - English Department has chosen Moodle as the right venue for these courses. This should not come as a surprise: Moodle is the world’s best Learning Management System because it is user-friendly, highly-configurable (flexible), and feature-rich (learn more) . The Ministry of Education has its own Moodle Platforms, which we, teachers, are familiar with because Moodle is the Learning Environment used in all Professional Development workshops, Universities, and Colleges.

The good news is that we, teachers, can now get as many Moodle Platforms as we need, and free of charge, to use with our pupils!  On the one hand, we can create our courses and upload our content. On the other hand, we can benefit from the excellent work of colleagues who have created superb content on each course for use either to the full extent, or in chunks (as we see fit).

Most teachers are familiar with Moodle as learners, yet few know Moodle as teachers. With the role of teachers on Moodle, we can customize our courses in ways that are best suited to our audience (our pupils). The Ministry of Education - English Department has developed Templates for K-12 which we can use “As Is” (in other words, just as each course is -  without any changes), or customized (that is, we can make changes we consider necessary, and even hide sections from our pupils).

There is a lot we teachers of English can do with Moodle with the role of teachers!

Moodle was designed for ultimate flexibility, a toolbox that accommodates both synchronous and asynchronous delivery to empower educators and trainers to build their own education platform that is appropriate to their learners”. Learn more

Regardless of the level we teach, we can help ourselves (and our pupils) with using what expert teachers (our colleagues here in Israel!) have created for us. We can also help our pupils become independent learners. Why not give that a try?

Google למידה דיגיטלית בבית הספר, access your area (You have one if you are a teacher working in the framework of the israel School System!), click on the relevant button (Elementary School or Junior High / High School), and see for yourself! Using Moodle with the role of teacher, there is a world of wealth waiting for you to pick.

Enjoy!

Elearningworld.org: Climate Change – EFL Learning Unit on Moodle

“CLIMATE CHANGE” is an online learning unit in English as Foreign Language (EFL) courses uploaded in the Moodle Learning Environment of The Six-Year Kugel High School in Holon, Israel. The unit deals with a very complex issue: climate change. In the light of the GLASGOW CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE – OCTOBER-NOVEMBER 2021, the school has tackled the issue to engage pupils in many different ways. This Moodle unit is one of ... Read more

C.O.B.E. Moodle course has been checked by hundreds of colleagues

Hi! Have you checked the Moodle for C.O.B.E. Moodle course? I learned 762 teachers had done so when checked last (November 14, 2021). 818 have done so up to now. I wonder how many colleagues have decided to use it with their pupils already enrolled. Give it a try! It is ALL in one virtual environment. This is how I have invited participants to join a new Zoom meeting (Module 3)
I have used Talkia and Toonly. Great apps!

Climate change unit on Moodle

Hi! I wish to share a small unit (CLIMATE CHANGE) to show how it is possible to help pupils learn vocabulary, practice all skills, and be tested on Moodle (The environment "checks" the quiz and provides a grade, while a teacher can check the speaking and writing tests). I have used Moodle Mashov, but this can be done on Ministry of Education Moodle. Incidentally, I have given this task as an optional activity to 10th grade and 11th-grade pupils who may wish to get an extra grade. This means they take should responsibility to go the extra mile. Have a good day!

Moodle to help pupils improve speaking

This post is meant to help teachers discover some of the possibilities of using Moodle to help pupils prepare for COBE. I will be teaching this in the coming Moodle workshop.

Invitation to request as many COBE MOODLE TEMPLATES as you

Hi!
Following a special request, Ministry of Education Moodle people have updated the link to the updated COBE Grading Rubrics. Accordingly, the COBE Template has been updated and is again available for teachers to request as many copies as they may need (one per group/course they teach, and with their pupils already enrolled, which means that there is no ”office work” involved for teachers to do).
Unlike other options available (no names here), Moodle offers practice in one digital environment (this means that neither teachers nor pupils have to access several apps to listen, watch, record, submit, etc.). In this way, COBE on Moodle is similar to ITest (and that is not the only similarity).
No less important, using Moodle to practice COBE is not restricted to use at school, where teachers and pupils may, or may not, have access to computers (and earphones) when they need them, and for the length of time needed. Should I mention the fact that at school there may be fewer computers than needed available at any given time?
Moodle comes in handy here: Teachers (and pupils) can access the copy of the COBE Template anytime, anywhere, and at no cost.  Teachers need to request a copy for their group, and pupils need to use their Ministry of Education username and password to access their safe and secure COBE environment. In other words, pupils can practice from home, and even do so using their Mobile device (though I believe it is much better to practice using a PC).
Teachers can also check (and grade if they wish to) their pupils’ recordings on Moodle. There is no need to ask pupils to use any application to submit their exams. It is all there on Moodle.
Incidentally, there is a link to the grading rubric on the Template, so the rubric is just one click away. The rubric could have been added to the Template, but it wasn’t added so as NOT to make things a bit difficult at this stage. Maybe next year (if there is a need).
People may scare you, teachers,  that Moodle is complicated, and “All that Jazz”. Don’t listen to them: Check by yourself to see if it suits you (and your pupils). You may even find out that you want to learn how to use Moodle not just for COBE because Moodle supports your work at school in a way no other digital environment does.
Happy Moodling!

Preparation for COBE on Moodle!

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! Would you like to help your pupils be ready for COBE all in one Platform? It can be done at both school and home. There is a way: Get as many copies of the Moodle Template (with your 2021 -2022 pupils enrolled). https://youtu.be/VICsyUp8CdI Do not let others discourage you: Check it (and try it) by yourself, and then decide whether it suits you and your pupils. Best wishes!

MEC, Teaching, Challenge, and Battery Recharging

If you want to do more than just learn more about how to use Moodle by (and for) yourself, do consider taking up the Moodle Educator Certification Program (MEC). You will not regret it.

While Moodle is not the only choice of an LMS that can be used in the framework of school, I am glad that The Israel Ministry of Education has chosen Moodle as one of them (Read more)

Sharing Get started teaching with Moodle | Mary Cooch, Helen Foster | MoodleMoot Global 2020

While there is a possibility that there will be (at least) one "Moodle Hands-On Workshop" sometime in the near future, colleagues here in Israel might now wonder whether using a Learning Management System to support their work in the classroom this school year is a good idea. I do and suggest they try Moodle. I have published post on ETNI and The English Teachers Community to help teachers get to know Moodle

Teachers may have heard about Moodle, but may not be not sure whether what they heard is accurate. I suggest they see for themselves. To help them do this, I have attached an introductory session to teaching with Moodle, designed for complete beginners new to teaching with Moodle.

Concerning Moodle 2.5 MOOC on WIZIQ - Dr. Neliie Dutsch

That was the MOOC in which Nellie Deutsch first introduced me to the wonders of using Moodle with the role of a teacher. Nellie has really inspired me. I have gone some way since that first MOOC (it was NOT the only one I took with Nellie. I was also a participant, and presenter, in some of Nellie's many projects). To mention just one example, two days ago I could present (at an Israel Ministry of Education Meetup in Tel Aviv attended by people who have a say in K12 education here) something that is having, and I guess will have even more an impact on how pupils do their Computerized Oral Matriculation Exam in English in Israel. It is meant to help (it already does) teachers of English in the system, and their pupils. Most pupils in the School system take that exam, so this may concern thousands of pupils. In many ways, this is an outcome of Nellie's influence on education, too: It is Teachers for Teachers as Nellie puts it. Thank you, Nellie! Ministry of Education Meetup - Digital Assessment and The COBE Template

 Good morning!

I would like to report concerning a Ministry of Education Meetup of last Monday evening , June 7th, 2021
I attach  images  with a report on the event (they appear on two important  Ministry of Education-affiliated Facebook groups centered on Technology and Innovation https://www.facebook.com/tikshuvil/  and https://www.facebook.com/groups/TechInnovationCom/about) and more
I was the presenter at a Round table, and introduced The COBE template, information about which was made available digitally by means of a QR. I also wrote a post on one of the Facebook groups about the Template (attached image)
The important point, I believe, is that I stressed the collaboration that brought about the creation of this Template, and the fact that we have come up with something that is already serving hundreds of teachers (465 have viewed the Template. I have to find out how many copies have been requested by how many teachers so far. And yet, I believe we will witness the real impact next school year).

While there are many hurdles to overcome when teaching teenagers in High School fully or partially online, perhaps convincing them that what you are “delivering” on your Moodle course (I am sorry, but when I think “online”, I think “Moodle”) is relevant to their lives now (and not just in the future) is a major hurdle. We live in the WIIFM (What’s in it for me?era, and to engage teens I have to persuade them that my “cool stuff”, I mean, content on Moodle, is somehow as important as any other “cool stuff” (a game, Instagram content, a Tik Tok video, etc.) that competes for their attention. It is a tough competition, mind you... Read more
